Have you ever envied the healthy lustrous hair of the models and actors you see on TV? You’ve probably thought that the only way to achieve such gorgeous locks is through expensive products and elaborate treatments that you’ll never be able to afford, right?
Well, that doesn’t always have to be the case. The key to beautiful hair is all about how you care for and protect your hair on a daily basis. And that doesn’t have to involve products that are going to break the bank! Here are ten simple tips for achieving healthy shiny hair to rival a supermodel:
#1 Use the same brand and line of shampoo and conditioner
You might fret over what brand of shampoo and conditioner you use, when actually, the most important part is simply making sure they’re from the same line! Most common brands have lines designed for different types of hair (e.g. for curly hair, dyed hair, frizzy hair etc.) Whatever you choose, make sure the shampoo and conditioner match, as they’ll be formulated the same and will work in harmony together.
#2 Trim your hair regularly
You can get a hair trim fairly cheaply from a hairdresser, or if you feel confident, you can do it yourself with a good pair of proper hair scissors. Even if you’re trying to grow your hair out, it’s important to trim the last inch or so regularly, as this helps to stimulate growth and get rid of breakages.
#3 Protect your hair from heat
It’s best to avoid using heating implements—like straighteners, curlers or hair dryers—as much as possible. But if you must use them, make sure you use a heat protection serum first. You don’t need a lot of fancy products for healthy hair, but this is one product you should invest in if you regularly use heating implements.
#4 Avoid tight hairstyles and accessories
Tight ponytails, braids or accessories that put strain on your hair will cause damage. Try looser hairstyles and accessories made of cotton or lighter materials. Not only is this healthier for your hair, but you’ll avoid those dreaded hair-related headaches!
#5 Use cold or lukewarm water when you wash your hair
It’s not that appealing to use cold water in the shower, but hot water can be extremely harsh on your hair and can have a negative reaction with the products you’re using. Even if you must use warm water in the shower, coat your hair in a splash of cold right at the end, for extra smoothness and protection.
