This Incredible Mother Gave Birth In A Hospital Hallway To A Baby That Just Couldn’t Wait

It’s pretty standard for babies to be delivered in hospitals. But that normally involves a hospital bed and a team of staff ready and waiting to help with the delivery. However, for one incredible mother and her baby, the experience was something quite different and definitely a story they’ll be telling for a lifetime.

Maxwell Alexander was due to be Kansas mother Jes Hogan’s sixth child. The pregnancy had been a relatively regular one, with Jes beginning to feel contractions for a few days that were what she describes as “uncomfortable, but never really gave me the feeling they would amount to anything more than a sleepless night.”
But when Jes was woken in the middle of the night to one strange long contraction, her waters rapidly broke in her bathroom at home and she feared they’d never make it to the hospital in time.

Jes says that the “preparedness and calm” of her partner Travis during the experience is something she’ll “always be in awe of”. He drove her to the hospital with the hazard lights on while Jes laboured intensely in the passenger seat. Travis kept Jes focused, reminding her to call the hospital and their birth photographer, Tammy (founder of Little Leapling Photography), to let them know Maxwell was on his way.

As it turns out, this was one birth that was definitely worth having a photographer around for. Tammy made it to the hospital in the nick of time and was with the couple as they rushed through the entrance. They made it through two sets of automatic doors, before Jes insisted they stop in the middle of the hall.
The baby couldn’t wait any longer.
“I then started to take my pants off because I could feel my body pushing the baby’s head out,” Jes describes the moment she knew what was happening. “I reached down and could feel his head crowning with my hand. I looked at my husband and said, “Travis catch him!””

With the help of a swift team of nurses who’d run to help, Maxwell Alexander was delivered at 3:38am, less than 25 minutes after Jes’s waters had broken at home. Not in a hospital room, but right there in the hallway.
Everything had come together to ensure this miraculous birth was a safe one, and that it was all incredibly caught on camera, thanks to Tammy snapping away. These pictures are a lasting record of a moment that Jes, Travis and their family will never forget.
Says Jes, “It was my craziest birth, but also, the most perfect. It was not at all what I had planned, but it ended without any intervention, with a healthy baby, and amazing support people by our sides. It was beautiful and I’ll forever love every memory of it.”
We applaud Jes for her strength, Travis for his calmness, Tammy for her photography skills, and the nurses who were so swift to attend to the unexpected birth. And of course, to Maxwell Alexander, who was so eager to enter the world that he just couldn’t wait a single moment longer!
