Although it can be hurtful when someone lies to you, it can be heartbreaking to find your spouse not being truthful to you. It is mainly because of the level of trust we have that it becomes tough to digest the lie. So, here are some ways that can help you find if your partner is lying to you:
#1 They’re Defensive Most of The Times
It is one of the most obvious signs your partner is not honest with you. People overreact or get defensive as soon as they’re questioned. Even if you ask a harmless question, they will react differently and get defensive. It is clearly not a good sign and it can lead to a lot of misunderstandings and fights between the couple.
#2 They Speak in a Weird Way
You know your spouse and you are familiar with how he/she speaks generally. If you notice that he/she is speaking in a weird way and differently than he/she usually speaks, there is a possibility that your spouse is lying to you. It is because people increase the speed of their speech or change their tone to ensure that their lie is asserted as the truth.
#3 They Tend to Make A Lot of Eye Contact or Avoid It
It is unfortunate that most people who lie are really good at it. Many people believe that a person who lies cannot make eye contact due to guilt and embarrassment. Although it holds true in some cases, many people who lie do exactly the opposite. They maintain eye contact to make you believe that they’re more sincere to you. Try to notice whether they are staring at you intensely or not. It is important to notice their eye movements.
#4 They Fidget and Scratch Excessively
If you find your spouse uselessly fidgeting or scratching his/her head during the conversation, it can indicate that he/she might be lying to you. It is because scratching and fidgeting is a sign of heightened nervousness and anxiety which most people go through when they are not telling the truth.
#5 They Put on A Fake Smile
You know your spouse very well and you know how he/she smiles. If you notice your spouse giving you a smile that doesn’t seem quite right, then there is a possibility he/she might be lying to you. If you notice closely, a fake smile is different than a genuine smile – it has a lot to do with the eyes. So, try to focus on the smile and the eyes of your spouse. The pupils of eyes dilate when someone lies.
