Most sculptures around cities are, let's face it, pretty forgettable. No disrespect to the artists of course (we can't do what you do!) but they more often than not fail to make an impression on us. Then, every once in a while, you see that one statue that's so perfect, so clever, so dang funny that you're thinking about it for days! That's what this list is, the best, not to mention the most hilarious statues, seen in cities throughout the world. Check out this list, and see if you've seen any of these sculptures in real life as well.
1. Unleash Your Inner Child
Have you ever behaved like a child in front of your crush? Or did you start to cry like a child after losing a few online games with your friend? Well, we all have a child inside who only comes out in front of the person we love or are most comfortable with.
This work by Alexander Milov is named "Love" as it shows the inner children trapped inside adult bodies.
2. The Superhero Within You
Oh, this is so cool. This is an electrifying sculpture by Paige Bradley from New York, USA.
At first, it seems like someone made a sculpture of a superhero that uses electricity. The cracks in the body show that sometimes you have to endure hardships to let the light within you get out.
3. Caught In The Act
One thing we know for sure that when the sculptor made this statue, they had no idea what some people would do with it.
But there you have it, some people get pretty creative with great statues that they find when visiting new places.
4. Want To Live Inside A Giant Sculpture?
This giant 16th-century sculpture is Colosso dell'Appennino (Gigante dell'Appennino) in Florence, Italy.
It was made by a renowned Italian sculptor Giambologna in the late 1500s. This 35 feet tall mountain god has several rooms inside it. We recommend that you go visit this mountain god when you get a chance.
5. A Fairy That Takes Your Breath Away
This dramatic fairy sculpture dancing with a dandelion is out of this world. It is the work of Robin Wight, a UK-based sculptor.
It is so fabulous that we have to admit this dynamic and enchanting fairy sculpture can take anyone's breath away and even make you believe in fairytales.
6. Superman's Greatest Weakness
If you thought Superman's greatest weakness is kryptonite, then you were so wrong. In reality, Superman's weakness is a clown on a unicycle.
Or maybe this sculpture is made of kryptonite. This might be the next Superman vs. The Joker fight scene.
7. Is That Mother Nature Trying To Take Her Planet Back?
This is called The Force of Nature by Lorenzo Quinn (not related to Harley Quinn in any way whatsoever). This sculpture is showing how Mother Nature is rotating. Quinn saw how a hurricane ravaged Thailand's coast and decided to create a sculpture dedicated to Mother Nature.
By the way, you can find slightly different versions of this amazing sculpture around the world, like in the United States, England, Singapore, and Monaco.
8. Sculptures From Silent Hill?
If you're a fan of the Silent Hill video games, then you may have felt this sculpture is related to them. But that is not the case here.
In reality, this 6-foot tall bronze and glass sculpture is called Rain by Nazar Bilyk from Ukraine. It is a giant raindrop resting on a man's face.
9. "I Miss Pooping On People"
This giant pigeon sculpture is like, "Don't make a fake expression just for the picture. I will poop on you for real."
If this pigeon were for real, we can imagine how much it would've enjoyed pooping on cars and people going to work.
10. Spirit Leading From The Front
Hey, itsn't that Spirit the Kiger Mustang stallion from the 2002 American adventure film Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron? Kids of the '90s must feel nostalgic after seeing the title of this photo. After all, we loved the film so much that we see Spirit in every horse we see out there.
If you haven't watched the 2002 film that was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, stop everything you’re doing and watch it. By the way, these sculptures are called Mustangs by Robert Glen from the USA.
11. Works Like a Charm
We don’t know what sort of drug deal is going on there, but it seems like everything is going as planned.
Or maybe it is a low-budget spy movie in which this guy is paying someone money for a top-secret or something.
12. Is That a "Palm" Tree?
We saw the opportunity and "palmed" it straightaway to come up with the title. You should try doing it in the future.
This is The Caring Hand in Switzerland and we absolutely loved it. A helping hand can play a big role in the success of a person. A great message!
13. Dementor, Is That You?
This sculpture called Black Ghost in Klaipeda, Lithuania, although it looks a lot like one of the dementors from Happy Potter (yeah, those dark creatures that drain happiness and hope from humans).
On second thought, it does look a lot like Ringwraith from the Lord of The Rings. What do you think about it? We're feeling a bit confused.
14. Don't Mess With The Cupid
The Cupid is like, "You wanted to have a photo taken so you could make fun of me? You messed with the wrong baby baldy."
The fear in the eyes of that guy is legit. 10 out of 10 marks for making it feel so real.
15. Another Reason To Visit Romania
Romania is home to breathtaking nature as the varied landscape, snow-capped mountains, and sandy Black Sea beaches make it a perfect place to visit.
But nature is not the only thing that attracts visitors. You can go to places like Onesti to visit historical sites, and don't forget to take a selfie with this sculpture called Mihai Eminescu.
16. Long Live The King: Rabbit Version
Although it is cute to see a toddler helping a rabbit, we thought of something else after seeing this adorable photo.
As die-hard fans of Lion King, we think so one of them is Rabbit Mufasa and the other one is Rabbit Scar.
17. Is This A Scene From The Movie Rain Man?
This sculpture by Jean-Michel Folon is called The Rain Man. A super dramatic teen will be like, "I cry in the rain so no one can see my tears."
This is just lovely. There's something about the water gushing down that's just so soothing.
18. “Just Act Natural”
This is one inappropriate photo that can make you laugh. After all, it is consensual.
But ladies, if someone ever tries to do it without your consent, just smash their head against the wall or kick them where it hurts the most.
19. The Amazing Feeling of Freedom
Sculpture Zenos Frudakis came up with this Freedom creation because he believes that the struggle to be free was not just a personal one, but universal to the human condition.
This one is inspiring as it teaches you to break free from whatever is holding you back. We loved it!
20. Titan is Here, Run For Your Lives!!!
Fans of the Japanese manga series Attack on Titan will surely get excited after seeing this sculpture. By the way, this impressive sculpture is called “Popped Up." It is located at Széchenyi Square in Budapest, Hungary.
This can also be a reminder for parents who want uninterrupted sleep on a Saturday but the kids won't let them have it.
21. Want To Take an Elevator?
This is an optical illusion at its best. Diminish And Ascend by David Mccracken in Australia looks like a never-ending staircase.
It is made smaller in a way that it looks like the staircase goes on and on.
22. Seabed Vicissitudes
This vicissitudes by Jason de Caires Taylor in Grenada, West Indies, depicts a powerful message. "Vicissitudes” is a large circle of figures shackled together and holding hands off the coast of Grenada in the Caribbean.
It remembers the captive Africans who died on slave ships during the Middle Passage, the crossing from Africa to the Americas.
23. Aww…Found a Dancing Partner
What makes kids so adorable is that they can do crazy things and still look cute (unlike adults).
And here this little angel is unintentionally trying to be cute and it’s so adorable.
24. Sowing Seeds?
In many parts of the world, farmers still sow seeds the traditional way, and this kind of looks like that.
By the way, this shadow street art is called "The Sower" in Kaunas, Lithuania, and apparently, the city government ended up painting over the stars because it was vandalism.
25. A Thought-Provoking Sculpture
This sinking library building outside the State Library in Melbourne, Australia, is considered an iconic part of the city.
It shows the sinking loss of actual books with pages we can touch, quiet conversations with friends, and a legacy due to the world's unending dependence on technology. Sad in so many aspects!
26. A Not So Friendly Statue
This is an epic 1,320-ton God of War statue in China and boy o boy, it is massive and a bit scary.
We love it, but the boat in the foreground kills the whole "wow" vibe of the picture. But some may say that the boat shows how huge the statue really is.
27. Thank God It's Not Real
These hippo sculptures look really cool and taking your children to see them is a good idea. But thankfully, none of them are real.
Did you know that hippos are the most dangerous animals due to their highly aggressive and unpredictable nature?
28. Still Better Than Duck Face Selfie Pose
Who said museums are boring? People who don’t like museums can learn a few tricks from these ladies.
They certainly know how to take a photo that can get the approval of so many people on the internet. It’s a thousand times better pose than that duck face selfie pose.
29. The Arrival
This sculpture is a work of Bruno Catalano called Les Voyageurs. You can find it in Marseilles, France and it is simply brilliant.
This eye-catching bronze sculpture depicts a realistic human worker with a part of his body missing. There is a very similar sculpture in Halifax, NS, Canada, of the migrant arriving.
30. Creepy? No Freakin' Way
In Ocean Atlas, there's a massive underwater statue of a girl that looks like she is carrying the ocean's weight on her shoulders.
If you're wondering why they place such huge statues in the ocean, you should know that this statue is made from pH-neutral cement, which helps coral to attach itself to it and creates more coral reefs (which are extremely important for the ocean).
31. Sculptures Worth a Thousand Words
This is The Monument of an Anonymous Passerby in Wroclaw, Poland. The statues signify all those souls who were lost, imprisoned, or harmed by the oppressive Communist regime that existed in Poland for many years.
This monument is located in Wroclaw because it honors an anonymous passerby who fell under the ground.
32. Is It Obstruction of Justice?
You see in movies how cops run after crooks to catch them. How the crook almost always gets away is a discussion for another day.
This statue is called De Vaartkapoen. It is located in Brussels, Belgium and it seems like the crook is trying to save his partner by making the policeman fall.
33. Fun By The River
“People of The River” in Singapore is widely known as one of the most creative statues in the world. After all, it looks like children are actually jumping into the river.
When asked, Chang Fah Cheong said, “My involvement in creative work pursuits, in particular, sculpture, is a state of mind. It is consciousness, an acute awareness of my existence, made up of limitless variables and possibilities.”
34. It Won’t Take a “Long Walk” To Watch This Sculpture
This is Nelson Mandela's sculpture in South Africa that pays tribute to a man with a great, brave heart.
The Nelson Mandela Sculpture by Marco Cianfanelli is just outside Howick, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. By the way, this is the place where the police captured Nelson Mandela and his "Long Walk to Freedom" began.
35. Ah, The Mythical Shape Shifting Creature
These gorgeous horse heads represent the wonderful world of equine history. The Kelpies are mythical shape-shifting creatures that are traditionally horse-shaped. It is said to lure people on to its back and dive into a deep lake to drown them.
By the way, the Kelpies are 30 meters high and each head weighs 300 tons. Sculptor Andy Scott designed these mesmerizing sculptures. They were completed back in 2013.
36. Bugs Bunny vs. Elmer Fudd
Why does it look like Elmer Fudd's knotted gun, which he used to try and hunt Bugs Bunny? On second thought, it reminds us of Hagrid in the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (titled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the United States).
By the way, this statue is advocating for non-violence. We loved this one and there are currently 16 copies of this sculpture around the world.
37. Just Portland Things
This salmon sculpture in Portland, Oregon, looks like a fun idea. And the brickwork seems a little too nice and tidy for the effect it is trying to achieve, doesn't it?
Who knows, maybe a big salmon flew out of the ocean and crashed through a building. It is a possibility.
38. In a Parallel Universe
These Jaume Plensa Sculptures in Yorkshire Sculpture Park shows how humans should be protecting trees, but it is not how we humans live.
Still, there is hope and one can be optimistic about the future after seeing such thought-provoking sculptures.
39. "Hey Man, Wanna Hang Out Together?"
When someone asks you, "Hey, want to hang out together?" it means they want to spend time together and usually it is a subtle way to ask someone to go out with you without putting the pressure of calling it a date.
But this Man Hanging Out sculpture in Prague, Czech Republic, gives a new meaning to hanging out. At first glance, some people may scream, "Hey, help that man up there!" It is simply a beautiful sculpture.
40. Having a Fun Day Out
This is one of those sculptures that will make you stop to take a closer look at it while also putting a smile on your face.
It is called A Day Out and you can find it in Adelaide, Australia. We're pretty sure kids absolutely love these guys.
41. Look Like Oil Pumps!
The Rising Tide by Jason DeCaires Taylor looks a lot like oil pumps. We hope other people think the same.
Sculptor Jason DeCaires Taylor sculpted four horsemen and submerged them in the Thames to warn the world about climate change.
42. Why Is The Cattle Still? Oh, Got It
This Cattle Drive in Dallas, Texas, looks so freakin' real, right? At first glance, you feel that these are as real as it gets. We have massive respect for the sculptor.
If you go closer to them, you will notice and appreciate the detailed work of the sculptor. Simply beautiful work!
43. Sculptures That Have a Spiritual Feel To Them
We don't know about you but we seriously think these two would be a great addition to a Dr. Who episode.
And as if the work wasn't splendid enough, the background weather has made the image so spellbinding.
44. So Sharknado Actually Happened?
Sharknado is a film series which is about how giant super tornadoes form in the Pacific Ocean to suck up a ton of sharks and carry them to land where they cause total chaos. It is a crazy, fun film series.
Who knew it happened for real? Well, at least this sculpture shows it did happen. It seems like someone is a big fan of the series in Oxford, UK.
45. Blockhead Lol
So blockhead means someone who is stupid. It seems like the sculptor got bored and decided to create a statue that shows what a blockhead actually looks like.
By the way, this is 'Unknown Bureaucrat,' which was created back in 1994 by Iceland sculptor Magnus Thomasson.
46. Not a Bald Villain
At first glance, you may think this is some sort of a villain from a sci-fi film. In reality, it is a far more wonderful sculpture.
It is Metalmorphosis by David Cherny at the Whitehall Technology Park, Charlotte, NC. It is amazing.
47. Another Reason To Hate War
This is a scene from the World War with real size statues. You can find it in Eceabat, Turkey.
The way the sculptor depicted death and every other aspect of the fight scene is commendable.
48. Someone Should Move Them Around
We know these iguanas look super real, but we have a suggestion: they can make them more realistic by hiring someone who moves them around at night. This iguana park in Amsterdam, Netherlands, is so cool.
By the way, there is a real iguana park in Guayaquil, Ecuador. It's lovely to hang out with them.
49. Thinking About The Weekend
This sculptor in Bratislava, Slovakia, is called Man At Work. Although it depicts a man who is apparently at work and is smiling, we have a question: how can someone be so happy at work?
Maybe it's Friday and he's just looking forward to his big weekend plans.
50. Time To Leave This Planet
This spider sculpture in Tate Modern, London, looks scary. It can give a mini heart attack to people with a fear of spiders.
It reminds us of Stephen King's The Mist. If you haven't read it then please do. You can also watch a movie based on it.
