The beautiful dog seen in this picture should be living in a loving home, playing in the backyard and gnawing on bones for dinner. Instead, it was found with a weight around its neck after someone attempted to drown it. The poor puppy was found in the Lithuanian district of Prineai by a woman named Audra Petraškienė. A non-profit Lithuanian animal organization called “Vyšnių Sodas” (“Cherry Garden”) posted about the animal’s ordeal on Facebook, and is keeping the community updated on the quest to find the perpetrator.
As the Facebook posted explains, Ms. Petraškienė found the dog at 11 o’clock last Friday, describing the poor creature as “a wet frightened puppy on whose neck was attached a weight of almost 6kg” [translation]. The puppy had been thrown into a nearby water body by someone who evidently never wanted it to breathe again...but thank God the dog managed to find its way out, and into the hands of someone with a heart.
Vyšnių Sodas went on to update their followers that they had spoken to the alleged owner of the dog, who claimed to have been “overwhelmed” by his pet, causing the dog to run off into the nearby village. The question still remains if the dog’s owner could be the perpetrator of this evil crime, or if it’s another villager—perhaps a neighbor with a grudge against the family, or simply a sadist who wants to see harm befall an innocent creature.
For now, at least, everyone who’s concerned about this puppy’s well-being can rest easy. The dog is in safe hands, and is undertaking blood tests and being fitted with a microchip. And the investigation will continue into who tried to end this animal’s precious life—with hopes that the perpetrator will receive appropriate punishment.
Vyšnių Sodas thanked everyone who’s been invested in the case, stating: “Thank you for protecting the animal, it shows the growing consciousness of our society and the perception that an animal can no longer be considered an object in the legal system” [translation].
